Vanessa Bryant commemorated a bittersweet milestone on Friday, May 1, sharing a poignant tribute to her late daughter Gianna on what would have been her 20th birthday.

The 43-year-old widow of NBA legend Kobe Bryant posted a throwback photograph on Instagram showing herself kissing her daughter, accompanied by a heartfelt message that captured the enduring pain of loss.

"Happy birthday to my sweet baby angel, Gianna. Words can't express how much I love and miss you mamacita," Vanessa wrote in the caption. "Mommy loves you so much! #HappyBirthday #20 💕💕"

The emotional post resonated widely, drawing an outpouring of support from celebrities and loved ones. Among those who commented were LeBron James, Kim Kardashian, Kelly Rowland, La La Anthony, Kris Jenner, and Gianna's older sister Natalia, all expressing their love and solidarity with the grieving mother.

The tribute marks more than six years since the tragic January 2020 helicopter crash that claimed the lives of Kobe and Gianna, along with seven others. The group had been traveling to Kobe's Mamba Sports Academy for a basketball game when the accident occurred. Kobe was 43 years old at the time of his death, while Gianna was just 13.

Vanessa and Kobe also shared three other daughters: Natalia, now 23, Bianka, 9, and Capri, 6. The family has continued to honor the memory of Kobe and Gianna through annual birthday tributes and philanthropic work.

Each year, Vanessa has marked these significant dates with public remembrances. Last year, she wrote, "Happy birthday, Gigi! Mommy loves and misses you more than I could ever express. I love you Gianna. ❤ī¸19 ⛚ī¸ 5/1 #Mambacita."

In 2024, Vanessa reflected on the milestones Gianna would have reached, noting what would have been her 18th birthday. "Happy birthday to my gorgeous girl, Gigi! I love you. I miss you. I'm so proud of you," she wrote at the time. "2024 was your year. You would've been graduating high school and choosing which college to go to. (I would've been trying my hardest to convince you to stay close to home)."

Vanessa also honored Kobe in August 2025 on what would have been his 47th birthday. "We love and miss you and Gigi so much," she wrote alongside a photograph of the couple sharing a kiss. "Sending our love to you. Happy birthday, baby. @kobebryant ❤ī¸."

The couple's love story began in 1999 when they met on the set of Eastsidaz's "G'd Up" music video, where Vanessa worked as a backup dancer. They married in 2001 and built a family together before tragedy struck.

In the aftermath of the crash, Vanessa pursued legal action against Los Angeles County for invasion of privacy and negligence after Sheriff's Office and Fire Department employees took and distributed photographs from the crash site. In August 2022, she was awarded $16 million in damages. The following year, she settled for nearly $29 million, donating the entire sum to the Mamba & Mambacita Sports Foundation, which continues the legacy of Kobe and Gianna through youth sports programs.

Through her continued public tributes and charitable work, Vanessa Bryant has demonstrated remarkable strength while keeping the memory of her husband and daughter alive for their family and the countless fans who continue to mourn their loss.
