Television personalities Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos captured attention at the 98th Academy Awards ceremony in March 2026, with Ripa selecting a striking gold gown that complemented her husband's traditional black tuxedo for the prestigious event.

The appearance marked another milestone for the couple, who have built careers both individually and together in the entertainment industry. Their relationship began in February 1995 during a screen test for the soap opera All My Children, where Consuelos auditioned for the role of Mateo Santos opposite Ripa's character Hayley Vaughan.

The chemistry between the two actors extended beyond the screen. Ripa recalled the moment during a SiriusXM interview in August 2018, explaining that casting director Judy Blye Wilson had been searching extensively for the right actor for the role. When Ripa saw Consuelos' photograph, she described experiencing a profound moment of recognition.

"When I saw him, the photograph of him, I saw my entire future with him flash before my eyes," Ripa stated during the interview. "I didn't believe in any of that and now I do because of that moment."

The relationship progressed rapidly. Following a casual date involving pizza and wine in 1996, Consuelos proposed marriage. The couple eloped to Las Vegas in May 1996, a decision Ripa has credited for contributing to their lasting union. Speaking on her talk show in May 2019, she emphasized her belief in the efficacy of their spontaneous wedding ceremony.

The couple expanded their family with the birth of their first son, Michael, in June 1997. Their daughter Lola arrived in June 2001, with her name inspired by Barry Manilow's song "Copacabana," which was playing in a taxi during Ripa's labor. Their youngest son, Joaquin, was born in February 2003.

Beyond their family life, Ripa and Consuelos established a professional partnership through their New York-based production company Milojo, founded in 2007. The company name represents a combination of their children's names.

Their professional collaboration reached a new phase in February 2023 when Consuelos was announced as the replacement for Ryan Seacrest on the morning talk show Live. He officially joined Ripa as co-host in April 2023, transforming the program into Live With Kelly and Mark.

Throughout their marriage, both have spoken publicly about the factors contributing to their relationship's longevity. During a January 2019 interview, Consuelos characterized his wife as "extremely patient and tolerant," identifying these qualities as fundamental to their marriage's success.

The couple has also addressed challenges they have navigated together. During a March 2023 episode of Ripa's podcast "Let's Talk Off Camera," they discussed Consuelos' past struggles with jealousy. Consuelos acknowledged the issue and his efforts to address it through personal development.

"The jealous person knows that this is wrong and it's ugly, but they can't help it," Consuelos explained during the podcast. "I wanted to do some work on myself and that was one of the major things that I needed to work on because it was getting in the way."

The 2026 Oscars appearance follows their previous attendance at the 2020 Academy Awards, which Ripa described via social media as a "prom" night for the couple. Their consistent presence at high-profile entertainment industry events reflects their established status within the television landscape.

As their children have grown into adulthood, with Michael and Lola attending college and Joaquin committed to the University of Michigan's wrestling team, Ripa and Consuelos have continued to balance their professional partnership with their personal relationship. Their May 2024 social media posts celebrating their 28th wedding anniversary demonstrated their ongoing commitment to one another.

The couple's appearance at the 2026 Academy Awards represents another chapter in their public journey together, showcasing a partnership that has evolved from soap opera co-stars to successful television hosts and business partners while maintaining their marriage through three decades of industry and personal changes.
