In a dramatic reversal, Alexa Melton has publicly retracted accusations that U.S. soccer star Christian Pulisic engaged in unfaithful behavior during their relationship. The 27-year-old AC Milan player, who went public with Melton in 2024, found himself at the center of social media controversy earlier this week when his former girlfriend suggested he had joined a dating application before their relationship ended.

Melton issued a statement on her Instagram story attempting to clarify her previous comments and absolve Pulisic of wrongdoing. The statement represents a complete about-face from her earlier social media activity, which had threatened to expose private details of the athlete's personal life.

"l've made some comments on a private matter and it's been taken out of context," Melton wrote in her Instagram story. "I received false info. He is not a cheater. Any narrative beyond that is not mine. Out of respect for Christian's and my privacy, I will not speak further regarding this matter."

The controversy began when a social media user commented on one of Melton's photographs, writing "This generational fumble will be studied for years to come🔥." Melton responded by asking, "how many likes to post his raya profile," referring to the exclusive dating application Raya. In a subsequent tweet that has since been deleted, she added the phrase "before it even ended," suggesting Pulisic had created the profile while they were still in a relationship.

The retraction comes amid heightened public interest in Pulisic's personal life. The soccer player was recently linked to actress Sydney Sweeney, prompting him to publicly deny the dating rumors. Sweeney is currently in a relationship with Scooter Braun, further complicating the speculation surrounding the athlete's romantic status.

What prompted Melton's change of heart remains unclear. The shift from threatening to release screenshots of an alleged dating profile to defending Pulisic against cheating accusations occurred within a matter of days, suggesting either new information came to light or reconsideration of the public nature of the dispute.

The incident highlights the challenges professional athletes face in maintaining privacy in an era of social media scrutiny. For Pulisic, who represents the United States on the international stage and plays for one of Europe's most storied clubs, personal matters quickly become public fodder when former partners take to social platforms.

Whether Pulisic has moved on romantically since his breakup with Melton remains unknown. The soccer star has not publicly commented on the accusations or the subsequent retraction, maintaining focus on his professional career with AC Milan as the season progresses.
