Security Footage Emerges in Kelly Clarkson Brooklyn Store Dispute

Newly surfaced security footage is adding a visual layer to the escalating public dispute between Kelly Clarkson and a Brooklyn curiosity shop over a $15,000 mechanical singing bird named Molly. The video, obtained by Pablo Torres and released on October 13, 2026, documents the singer's visit to Art of Play but does not include audio, leaving key questions about the interaction unanswered.

According to the surveillance footage, Clarkson entered the store and browsed various items before approaching the mechanical bird mounted on the wall. She is seen speaking with an employee and pointing toward Molly. Approximately five minutes after her arrival, the video shows Clarkson gesturing with her hands and appearing to speak emotionally with the worker near the entrance, after which she exited the shop.

The dispute first became public over the weekend when Clarkson claimed she drove to Art of Play intending to purchase multiple items but felt an employee assumed she could not afford what she wanted. She likened the experience to Julia Roberts' character being snubbed in the film "Pretty Woman" and warned the shop it had lost a significant sale.

Art of Play initially responded by stating that Molly was a unique singing and dancing automaton permanently affixed to the wall and not available for purchase. Clarkson countered by accusing the shop of dishonesty, maintaining that an employee had indicated a $15,000 price tag and then offered to locate a similar item for her.

The store later revised its explanation, clarifying that the $15,000 figure referred to a nearly identical bird owned by Seattle artist Bliss Kolb. Art of Play also asserted that its staff had offered to show Clarkson a different singing bird priced at approximately $2,000, but she departed before viewing it.

The newly released footage provides a visual record of the visit but cannot resolve disagreements over tone or the precise nature of the conversation. The online reaction has been substantial, with supporters of both parties engaging in the debate and the small business encountering heightened public scrutiny. The controversy has also prompted discussion about whether a celebrity's social media callout is appropriate when a local business offers a conflicting account.

Whether the surveillance video supports Clarkson's version, the store's position, or neither entirely remains a matter for public interpretation.
