Reality TV Star Jason Oppenheim Announces Amicable Split From Jessica Vargas

Jason Oppenheim, the 48-year-old real estate mogul and star of the popular Netflix series Selling Sunset, has confirmed that he and Jessica Vargas have ended their romantic relationship. The announcement, made through social media and joint statements to media outlets, emphasized the amicable nature of the separation and the pair's intention to remain close friends.

On Sunday, February 15, Oppenheim shared a black-and-white photograph on Instagram alongside a message clarifying the status of their relationship. The real estate executive wrote that while they were no longer romantically involved, their affection and friendship remained intact. Vargas, who works as a realtor associate at Oppenheim's own brokerage, the Oppenheim Group, responded by reposting the image with her own message expressing hope that others might experience similar meaningful friendships.

The timing of the announcement proved noteworthy, as both individuals were attending a wedding together in Hawaii when they released coordinated statements to the press. This detail underscored their commitment to maintaining their bond despite the change in their relationship status.

In his statement, Oppenheim offered effusive praise for his former partner. He described Vargas as the most beautiful woman he had encountered, both internally and externally, and emphasized that while marriage would not be in their future, their friendship would endure. He stated that having her presence in his life remained his primary concern.

Vargas reciprocated the sentiment in her own statement, affirming that their mutual affection would persist. She characterized the decision to remain close friends as the optimal outcome for both parties and praised Oppenheim as an exceptional individual with considerable compassion.

The relationship had become public knowledge in April 2025, when the couple made their first official appearance together at a red carpet event. Their romance developed from an established friendship, with both parties having worked together in the competitive Los Angeles luxury real estate market.

The coupling attracted attention partly due to Oppenheim's previous high-profile relationship with Chrishell Stause, his co-star on Selling Sunset. That relationship, which became public in 2021, ended later the same year. Stause, now 44, subsequently married Australian musician G Flip in 2023. When asked about Oppenheim's relationship with Vargas earlier in 2025, Stause offered diplomatic remarks, describing Vargas as pleasant and kind.

During a December 2025 appearance on the podcast hosted by Alex Hall, a star of the related series Selling the OC, both Oppenheim and Vargas discussed the foundation of their relationship. They explained that their romantic connection evolved from a genuine friendship that allowed them to develop authentic understanding of one another. Vargas noted that because Oppenheim had been in another relationship when they initially became acquainted, they were able to establish a friendship without romantic pressure.

During that same podcast episode, Oppenheim made headlines by revealing that he had changed his previously stated position on marriage. He acknowledged that he had initially told Vargas he did not envision himself marrying, but that his perspective had shifted. He indicated that marriage to Vargas had become part of his plans for the future.

However, both parties confirmed that their alignment on the decision not to have children remained unchanged. Vargas explained that this shared perspective on parenthood represented one of the significant factors that strengthened their connection. She described their compatibility on major life decisions as a source of mutual understanding.

The announcement of their separation comes merely months after Oppenheim had publicly discussed marriage plans, illustrating the unpredictable nature of romantic relationships even when couples appear well-matched on fundamental issues. Nevertheless, the cordial tone of their statements and their joint appearance at a social event suggest that both individuals are committed to preserving the positive aspects of their connection as they transition to a platonic relationship.

The real estate industry and entertainment communities will likely continue to follow the developments in both individuals' personal and professional lives, particularly given their continued professional association through the Oppenheim Group brokerage and the ongoing production of the Selling Sunset series.
