President Donald Trump addressed the recent arrest of professional golfer Tiger Woods on Friday, March 27, expressing concern for his longtime friend following a rollover vehicle collision in Jupiter, Florida, that resulted in DUI charges.

When questioned by reporters about the incident, Trump stated he felt badly for Woods, acknowledging the golfer faces difficulties while declining to elaborate further. The President described Woods as an amazing person and close personal friend, though he indicated he preferred not to discuss the matter in detail.

The two men share a documented friendship spanning years, including golf outings and official meetings. Most recently, they connected in 2025 at the White House during discussions involving PGA Tour and LIV Golf officials. Trump previously honored Woods with the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2019. The relationship extends to family connections as well, with Woods currently dating Vanessa Trump, the former spouse of Donald Trump Jr.

According to Martin County Sheriff John Budensiek, the incident occurred shortly before 2:00 p.m. local time on Friday when Woods, driving a Land Rover, collided with a pickup truck towing a small trailer on South Beach Road. The impact caused the SUV to roll onto its side.

Sheriff Budensiek provided details of the collision, explaining that the pickup truck driver was slowing to turn into a driveway when he observed the Land Rover approaching at high speed in his mirror. The Land Rover struck the trailer, causing the vehicle to overturn. Woods was able to exit through the passenger door following the crash.

Law enforcement officials who responded to the scene reported that Woods displayed signs of impairment and appeared to have been driving erratically prior to the collision. DUI investigators conducted field assessments at the location.

Sheriff Budensiek noted that Woods exercised caution in his statements to authorities. While the golfer submitted to a breathalyzer test that registered zero alcohol content, he declined to provide a urine sample when requested by investigators.

Woods faces three charges stemming from the incident: driving under the influence, causing property damage, and refusal to submit to a lawful test. He remains in custody at Martin County Jail as the legal process moves forward.

The arrest marks another challenging chapter for the golf champion, whose career has been punctuated by both extraordinary athletic achievements and personal setbacks. This incident raises questions about the circumstances leading to the collision and what substances, if any, may have contributed to the observed impairment.

Sources confirmed that Vanessa Trump and her daughters were not present in the vehicle at the time of the accident. The investigation continues as authorities work to determine the full circumstances surrounding the crash and subsequent arrest.
