Nick Reiner has filed legal documents disputing his trustee's assertion that he authorized withholding funds he claims were due to him when he reached age 30, according to court filings submitted Friday.
In the new filing, Reiner directly challenges successor trustee Jodi Pais Montgomery's contention that he previously told a former trustee he would leave the money in the account as trust property. Reiner maintains no such conversation occurred and that he never provided consent for the funds to remain inaccessible.
The court document also addresses claims involving his mother, Michele Reiner. According to the filing, Montgomery has suggested that Michele Reiner informed a previous trustee that her son understood he could withdraw the money upon turning 30, and that his failure to do so constituted implied consent to leave it in the trust. Reiner rejects this argument, stating he never authorized his mother or any other individual to make such statements on his behalf.
Reiner asserts that no one informed him he had the ability to access the funds from the account. He is now demanding the principal amount plus accrued interest, which the trustee has valued at approximately $558,000 for the distribution that was to occur at age 30.
The financial dispute carries significant weight for Reiner's immediate future. He faces murder charges in connection with the deaths of his parents, Rob and Michele Reiner, and requires the trust funds to pay for his legal representation.
Attorney Alan Jackson initially represented Reiner following the indictment but withdrew from the case when Reiner proved unable to compensate him using the contested trust money. The inability to access these funds has left Reiner in a precarious position as he prepares to defend himself against the serious criminal charges.
