The marriage between Muse frontman Matt Bellamy and model Elle Evans has officially come to an end, with the musician filing divorce papers in August 2026. The dissolution marks the conclusion of a relationship that began on a music video set more than a decade ago and produced two children.
According to court documents, Bellamy listed irreconcilable differences as the cause for ending the marriage. The Grammy-winning artist has requested both legal and physical custody of the couple's daughter Lovella Dawn, born in June 2020, and son George Julien-Wade, born in May 2024.
The separation itself occurred in 2025, though Bellamy did not publicly acknowledge the split until June 2026. Speaking to The i Paper, he described the circumstances as unexpected and challenging.
"It's one of those situations that involves something that people wouldn't normally think it is," Bellamy told The i Paper. "It was a set of really unexpected circumstances. It's the kind of thing no one really prepares for in life. It threw me off, and I had to prioritize looking after the kids and creating stability at home."
The relationship between Bellamy and Evans began in February 2015 when they met during production of the music video for Muse's song "Mercy." Evans portrayed an android in the video, and romance quickly blossomed between the musician and the model.
Their courtship progressed steadily through public appearances at high-profile events. The couple attended the 2016 Grammy Awards together, where Muse won Best Rock Album for Drones. Bellamy wore an Emporio Armani suit while Evans chose a ruffled plum gown for the ceremony.
Bellamy proposed in December 2017, just days after Evans' birthday. Evans announced the engagement on Instagram, writing that the couple was too excited to wait until Christmas to share the news with the world.
The pair married in August 2019 in an outdoor ceremony by the sea in Malibu. Both shared photographs from the wedding on social media, captioning the images "Mr. and Mrs. Bellamy."
Their first child together, daughter Lovella Dawn, arrived in June 2020. The couple announced Evans' pregnancy in February 2020 through an Instagram post showing them with their hands on her belly. Bellamy already had a son, Bingham, born in 2011 from his previous relationship with actress Kate Hudson.
The family expanded again when Evans gave birth to son George Julien-Wade in May 2024. In an Instagram post at the time, Evans explained the significance of their son's name, stating he was named after Bellamy's father George, her mother Julie, and her father Billy Wade Evans.
"So grateful to my wonderfully perfect husband for being so supportive & by my side every step of the way!" Evans wrote on Instagram following George's birth.
The couple celebrated milestones together throughout their marriage, including returning to their wedding location for their first anniversary in August 2020 with baby Lovella and their two dogs. They also maintained a blended family relationship with Hudson and her fiancé Danny Fujikawa, celebrating holidays together including Easter in April 2022.
The divorce filing in August 2026 comes two months after Bellamy first confirmed the separation publicly. The musician emphasized in his June 2026 interview that his priority has been ensuring stability for his children during the difficult transition.
