Duane "Keffe D" Davis, the 63-year-old convicted of orchestrating the 1996 murder of Tupac Shakur, has been moved from a Las Vegas jail to High Desert State Prison, a maximum-security facility in the Las Vegas area, according to Las Vegas' 8 News Now. The transfer, reported on Thursday, October 29, 2026, follows his sentencing earlier in October.

On October 13, Davis received a sentence of 40 years to life in prison. A jury had convicted him of first-degree murder in August. The placement at High Desert State Prison marks the beginning of what is expected to be a decades-long incarceration for the only individual ever charged in connection with the rapper's killing.

Prosecutors alleged that Davis played a role in arranging the drive-by shooting that killed Shakur. The attack was described as retaliation for an altercation at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, where Shakur and members of his entourage assaulted Davis' nephew, Orlando "Baby Lane" Anderson.

Shakur was shot on September 7, 1996, while riding in a BMW with Suge Knight. He died six days later at the age of 25. The case remained unsolved for nearly three decades before Davis was charged.

Davis' legal team has consistently asserted his innocence and intends to pursue an appeal of the conviction, according to TMZ.com.
