"It's a damn shame that Kim missed the chance to be a spokesperson for shelter pups," Newkirk, 76, stated in December. "Ignoring the homeless animal crisis is inexcusably callous."
Newkirk further asserted that "puppies are not plushies" and urged Kardashian to contact PETA or local shelters for future pet acquisitions. The animal rights advocate suggested Kardashian could "make some amends" by having her children volunteer at shelters or funding adoption events.
