Jay-Z Picks Himself for Super Bowl LXI Halftime

The NFL's biggest stage will feature its own gatekeeper. Jay-Z, the rap mogul whose Roc Nation oversees the Super Bowl halftime show, has reportedly selected himself as the headliner for Super Bowl LXI, according to Puck News, as relayed by TMZ.com.

The game is scheduled for Feb. 14, 2027, at SoFi Stadium. Multiple sources told Puck News that Jay-Z weighed the decision for weeks before concluding that choosing himself was a "more compelling" option than the other candidates reportedly under consideration, Miley Cyrus and Justin Bieber.

The selection carries significant business implications. In 2019, Roc Nation reportedly secured a $5 million-a-year deal to produce the halftime performance, and the company renewed that arrangement in 2024 for another five years. That means the same entity responsible for booking the show is now also supplying its star attraction.

The move also arrives after a turbulent year for the halftime franchise. Last year's selection of Bad Bunny generated substantial backlash, largely because the artist performed exclusively in Spanish, drawing criticism from conservatives who argued some Americans could not understand the lyrics. By contrast, Jay-Z's self-selection is unlikely to create the same kind of headache for the NFL, given his central role in running the show.

TMZ.com previously reported that Justin Bieber and Harry Styles appeared on Roc Nation's wish list for the slot. Bieber's name resurfaced in the Puck News reporting as one of the alternatives Jay-Z passed over.

With the announcement now circulating, the countdown to the performance has begun. According to TMZ.com, 117 days remain until Jay-Z takes the stage at the Super Bowl.
