Hasan Piker Files $72.5 Million Defamation Suit Against Scott Jennings

Hasan Piker, the controversial left-wing Twitch streamer, has filed a defamation lawsuit against conservative commentator and CNN contributor Scott Jennings, seeking $72.5 million in damages, according to court documents obtained by TMZ.

The suit centers on Jennings' August 11 podcast episode, in which Piker alleges Jennings aired a mashup of clips purporting to show Piker endorsing lynchings. According to the lawsuit, one clip allegedly quoted Piker saying the country should go "back to a better time when lynchings were happening," and Jennings highlighted to Black voters that Piker planned on "returning our country to lynchings."

Piker's attorneys contend the characterization is entirely false, asserting that the remarks were obviously sarcastic commentary about another person's statements rather than an endorsement of lynchings. The lawsuit claims Jennings continued to twist Piker's words to suggest he supported lynchings, which Piker says is not the case.

In a statement included in the filing, Piker's attorneys wrote, "These were not expressions of disagreement with Mr. Piker's politics. Nor were they rhetorical characterizations of an admittedly controversial commentator. They were factual assertions about what Mr. Piker had said and advocated in his work. Each statement was demonstrably false."

According to the lawsuit, Piker's legal team sent Jennings a letter demanding a retraction, but Jennings never responded. Piker is now seeking the $72.5 million, claiming his reputation has been harmed along with his ability to make a living.

TMZ reports that it reached out to Jennings for comment and had not received a response as of publication.

The dispute highlights the growing legal and reputational stakes for high-profile political commentators whose statements reach large audiences across podcasts and cable news. For local readers, the case underscores how quickly claims made in national media can escalate into multimillion-dollar litigation, and how retraction demands often serve as a precursor to defamation suits when unanswered.
