San Antonio Spurs icon Gregg Popovich has remarried, tying the knot with Mary Barth Budenholzer, the former wife of his one-time assistant coach Mike Budenholzer, according to a marriage license obtained by TMZ.com.

The license, filed in Bexar County, Texas, indicates the couple exchanged wedding rings on September 16, 2026. The filing places the ceremony in the same county where Popovich built his legendary career with the Spurs.

Mike Budenholzer served as an assistant under Popovich for nearly two decades, from 1996 to 2013, a stretch that overlapped with five NBA championship runs for the Spurs. He departed the organization to become head coach of the Atlanta Hawks.

The personal history between the families includes significant transitions. Mike and Mary Budenholzer divorced quietly in 2016. Two years later, in 2018, Popovich's first wife, Erin Popovich, died after battling an undisclosed severe illness.

By last season, Popovich and Mary Budenholzer were attending Spurs games together, and Mike Budenholzer has since entered a new relationship of his own, according to TMZ.com.

The Spurs declined to comment on the marriage, the outlet reported.

For San Antonio, the news adds a personal chapter to a franchise story defined by Popovich's leadership. The five titles he won with Budenholzer on staff remain central to the team's identity, and the marriage connects two families long associated with the organization.
