A fundraising campaign has been established to assist the widow of Malcolm-Jamal Warner as she faces mounting legal and financial pressures in the wake of the actor's death last year. The GoFundMe page, created Tuesday by Destiny Rael, seeks to provide support for Tenisha Warner and her young daughter during an ongoing estate dispute.
Rael, who describes herself as Tenisha Warner's closest friend for 19 years and the person who introduced the couple, launched the campaign with a $40,000 goal. The funds are intended to alleviate financial burdens and help secure stability for the 48-year-old widow and her nine-year-old daughter as they work through the complexities of the late actor's estate.
In the fundraiser's introduction, Rael detailed the challenges her friend has confronted since Malcolm-Jamal Warner's death. The Cosby Show actor, who was 54 years old, died in July 2025 when he was swept away by a riptide while vacationing with his family in Costa Rica.
The tragedy was compounded by practical difficulties upon Tenisha Warner's return home, including flooding damage to the residence she had shared with her late husband. Rael emphasized that her friend has been managing these crises while simultaneously homeschooling their daughter and handling legal matters that emerged shortly after the actor's passing.
"I have watched Tenisha spend this year grieving the love of her life while honoring the promise they made to each other, to homeschool their nine-year-old daughter," Rael wrote in the campaign description. "Every single day she shows up for her child as though her own world had not fallen apart, and still makes sure breakfast is on the table."
According to Rael, Malcolm-Jamal Warner had planned to revise his estate documents to ensure financial protection for his wife and daughter, but he died before executing the updated plan. The friend characterized Tenisha Warner as someone who does not readily seek assistance, prompting those close to her to organize the fundraising effort on her behalf.
"She is rebuilding not only her life without him, but the very home they created together," Rael wrote. "Every room holds their memories, with no space to truly mourn, because the demands have never paused: legal matters that began within weeks of Malcolm's passing, financial weight carried alone, a house to put back together, and their daughter to care for every single day."
The fundraising campaign emerges against the backdrop of a legal conflict between Tenisha Warner and her mother-in-law, Pamela Warner. Court documents filed in July reveal that Tenisha Warner is seeking more than $1.2 million from the Warner Family Trust, which Malcolm-Jamal Warner established in 1996. Pamela Warner, who previously managed her son's career, now serves as successor trustee of that trust.
The widow's legal claim centers on a prenuptial agreement the couple signed in May 2022, with Tenisha Warner asserting that the trust funds represent what her late husband had contractually committed to her under that premarital arrangement.
While Pamela Warner has not publicly commented on the lawsuit, she posted a message on social media on the first anniversary of her son's death that appeared to reference family tensions. Writing on both Facebook and the Malcolm Jamal-Warner Living Legacy Instagram page, she stated: "During my year long journey, I have discovered how cruel, evil and greedy a human can be. I have also discovered the depth of love, care, concern and support that humans are capable of."
Rael emphasized in the GoFundMe description that the campaign is not designed to take sides in the family dispute. Instead, she framed the effort as support for a grieving mother and daughter facing financial uncertainty.
"I am asking you to stand with a grieving wife and mother, and her young daughter, so they don't lose what Malcolm always intended to provide for them," Rael wrote. "Every contribution, no matter the amount, makes a meaningful difference."
The campaign organizer noted that donations will help cover immediate expenses and provide financial security as Tenisha Warner navigates the estate resolution process. For those unable to contribute financially, Rael requested that supporters share the fundraising page and keep the family in their thoughts.
