A former Disney Channel actor is facing multiple felony charges in Texas following a grand jury indictment on child pornography possession and protective order violations. Matthew Prokop, 35, was indicted on March 19, 2026, and entered a not guilty plea five days later on March 24, according to court documents.
The indictment includes one first-degree felony count of possession of child pornography. According to the filing, the County of Victoria in Texas discovered that Prokop was allegedly in possession of "visual material" containing "50 or more visual depictions of a child who were younger than 18 years of age at the time that the images of the children were made." Court records indicate the images were graphic in nature, with some depicting children "engaging in sexual conduct, namely sexual contact."
In addition to the child pornography charge, Prokop faces a third-degree felony count for violating a protective order two or more times within a twelve-month period. The protective order was granted to a woman identified in court records as Lucy in May 2024.
According to court documents, Prokop allegedly violated the protective order multiple times in December 2025. On December 21, 2025, he allegedly communicated with Lucy "in [a] threatening or harassing manner, namely by telling her in person that he was going to kill her," per the court paperwork. Three days later on December 24, 2025, he allegedly contacted her again, sending "sexually explicit pictures, picture[s] of the hotel she was staying at and continuous text messaging and calling after she asked him to stop."
The current charges stem from a pattern of alleged criminal behavior. Prokop was previously arrested in May 2024 in his hometown of Victoria, Texas, for an alleged assault on Lucy. According to police reports, Lucy claimed Prokop shoved her and slammed her head into something. He allegedly threatened to "smash [her] skull in," with an eyewitness telling the Daily Mail that witnesses "saw him throw Lucy to the ground, shove her around and then when they saw the hammer come up, that's when they had enough."
Prokop was booked on charges of aggravated assault with a weapon and resisting arrest following the May 2024 incident. He bonded out on those charges. However, he was arrested again in December 2025 after allegedly violating his 2024 bond conditions. That arrest resulted in charges including one count of violation of bond, two counts of resisting arrest, search or transportation, one count of evading arrest or detention, and a second-degree felony count of possession of child pornography.
This is not the first time Prokop has faced allegations of domestic violence. The actor was previously accused of abusing his ex-girlfriend, actress Sarah Hyland, during their five-year relationship. Hyland, who starred opposite Prokop in Disney's Geek Charming, was granted a domestic violence temporary restraining order against him in September 2014.
In her 2014 court filing, Hyland alleged that Prokop once choked her after pinning her against a car during an argument. "His grip was so tight that I could not breathe or speak. I was scared and in fear for my life," she claimed. Hyland, now 35, also alleged that Prokop threatened to burn down her house after she broke up with him and "relentlessly bombarded [her] with vile, threatening and emotionally disturbing texts and voicemails including his own suicide threats."
Prokop appeared in several Disney productions during his acting career, including a role in High School Musical 3. The legal proceedings in Victoria County are ongoing as the case moves forward through the Texas court system.
