A detective who oversaw the investigation into Russell Brand's sexual assault case has stated that the actor and comedian continues to represent a danger to women, despite his charismatic public image. Detective Superintendent Andy Furphy made the assessment during an interview with Sky News, responding directly when asked whether he believed Brand still poses a risk.

"Yes, I do," Furphy told Sky News. He elaborated on the reasoning, stating, "I think he's got that position of power and trust and millions of followers."

Furphy also described a stark contrast between Brand's public demeanor and his conduct in legal settings. According to Furphy, Brand was initially "withdrawn and quiet" during police interviews but became "more open" as he grew comfortable. Furphy characterized the difference by saying, "Out on the steps he's got his public persona, he is greeting the press but in court a very withdrawn character, particularly so when he gave his evidence."

The comments follow Brand's conviction on Thursday, November 5, 2026, on one count of rape and three counts of sexual assault. He was acquitted of two other rape charges and attempted indecent assault. Brand will remain behind bars until his sentencing, which is scheduled for Monday, November 9, 2026.

The case has drawn significant public attention, and Furphy's remarks underscore concerns about the influence wielded by high-profile figures. The sentencing hearing on Monday is expected to bring further developments in the legal proceedings.
