Christina Applegate is pursuing a new round of medical testing after disclosing that her multiple sclerosis diagnosis was incorrect. The "Dead to Me" star announced on her "MeSsy" podcast this week that she is being evaluated for other conditions, describing her situation as returning to "square one."
Applegate explained that she is being tested "one-by-one" for what she termed the "sister diseases" to MS. She noted that conditions including rheumatoid arthritis, lupus and Lyme disease can all produce symptoms that mimic those of multiple sclerosis.
"So now I'm being tested for all that stuff slowly but surely," Applegate said on the "MeSsy" podcast, according to TMZ.com.
The actress first revealed her MS diagnosis in 2021. Just last month, she announced that she had learned she was misdiagnosed.
Applegate also mentioned on the podcast that the misdiagnosis has prompted a degree of identity crisis, and that she feels like "a fraud." The disclosure underscores the difficulty patients can face when symptoms overlap across autoimmune and neurological conditions, a challenge that often requires extensive testing before an accurate diagnosis is reached.
