Christina Aguilera provided fans with an uncommon glimpse into her family life through social media posts documenting a recent vacation to Costa Rica. The 45-year-old entertainer shared moments from the trip on Wednesday, March 26, featuring her daughter Summer, who is 11 years old, and her fiancé Matthew Rutler.
The family visited La Paz Waterfall Gardens and Wildlife Refuge, where they explored various natural attractions and animal exhibits. Aguilera captioned the Instagram video with appreciation for the tour, noting the refreshing experience and using the Costa Rican phrase "pura vida."
The footage captured the trio observing wildlife at the animal sanctuary, including jungle cats, and visiting multiple nature exhibits. The refuge features a butterfly observatory, hummingbird garden, serpentarium, and frog pond. Aguilera and Rutler, 40, appeared relaxed during their getaway, enjoying beverages together while taking in the scenic surroundings.
The Costa Rica trip followed Aguilera's performance at the Picnic Festival Centroamérica on Saturday, March 21, where she performed several of her most recognized songs. The singer maintains a demanding professional schedule while prioritizing family time.
Aguilera shares Summer with Rutler and has a 17-year-old son named Max from her previous marriage to Jordan Bratman. The singer and Rutler became engaged on Valentine's Day in 2014, and Summer was born later that same year.
In a 2016 interview with Women's Health magazine, Aguilera addressed the challenges and rewards of motherhood, emphasizing the importance of self-care for parents. She discussed societal expectations placed on mothers and the necessity of personal well-being.
"Mothers are constantly expected to be the nurturers, the givers, the providers of a comfortable home," Aguilera told the publication. "We're expected to be pregnant, have the kids, breastfeed once we have the babies. And we're expected to look amazing after baby, right? Keep our husbands and boyfriends interested — because we're supposed to get back to sexy and keep things exciting in the bedroom. There's such a long list."
She continued, "Having children is the ultimate joy, and I love my kids, but women have to find time to nurture themselves. If someone has a baby, the first thing I'm like is, 'OK, are you taking care of you?'"
Regarding wedding plans, sources indicated in August 2022 that Aguilera and Rutler remain content with their current relationship status. The couple reportedly does not feel the need for a formal marriage ceremony to validate their commitment to one another, with insiders describing them as very much in love and happy with their arrangement.
The recent Costa Rica vacation represents one of the few occasions where Aguilera has publicly shared family moments, as she typically maintains privacy regarding her children and personal life. The social media post offered followers a window into the singer's life away from the stage and recording studio.
