Actress Reflects on Beauty Standards While Celebrating Milestone Birthday

Actress and podcast host Candace Cameron Bure entered her fifth decade on Monday, April 6, offering unusually frank commentary about cosmetic procedures and the pressures of aging in the entertainment industry.

In discussions surrounding her milestone birthday, Bure revealed she has tried Botox once and recently underwent laser treatment to address melasma, a condition that causes dark spots on the skin.

"I got it the one time, and it was great," Bure said of her Botox experience. "I loved it, but, let's see, I actually just had a little laser. I have some dark spots on my face, melasma. So that was a little birthday present to myself, which will still be ongoing, because I would really like to get those dark spots off."

The actress expressed satisfaction with the laser treatment results, noting improvements in both the dark spots and overall skin texture. "Already the dark spots have improved, and then the texture of my skin, I feel like my pores are non-existent right now," she said.

Regarding the broader question of beauty standards in Hollywood, Bure articulated a measured approach that balances self-care with acceptance of natural aging processes.

"I don't think I feel pressure, but I want to age as beautifully as I can," the podcast host explained. "Whether that's completely natural or it's with the help of a doctor or lasers, I don't know. I just take one day at a time."

Bure cited actress Michelle Pfeiffer as an example of aging gracefully, noting her appearance in the television series The Madison. "I have no idea if she's done any work or not, but I see wrinkles, and she is so stunning," Bure said. "I want to age like that, because I can't tell if she's had anything done."

She also referenced her mother as a source of inspiration, describing her as beautiful despite never having undergone cosmetic procedures.

Beyond cosmetic considerations, Bure emphasized that physical health and longevity represent her primary focus as she enters her fifties. She disclosed that she has intensified her fitness regimen over the past year and a half specifically to reach this milestone in optimal condition.

"My goals are to stay as healthy as possible," she stated. "Longevity is so key for me. I've been on a fitness grind for a while but I really kicked it up a notch the last year and a half because I just wanted to enter 50 into a place that I've never been before."

The actress also addressed the challenges of perimenopause and menopause, expressing appreciation for increased public discourse and educational resources on these topics. "I've been so committed physically. Not just the training, but understanding this new stage of life with perimenopause and menopause," Bure said. "I think there's so much more information out there. So many more women are now sharing and we're getting the help that we need that will make this part of life feel better."

Her comments reflect a broader cultural shift toward transparency regarding aging, cosmetic procedures, and women's health issues that have historically been considered taboo subjects in public discourse.
