Bitat Noureddine, a member of the New York Taxi Workers Alliance, was dragged from his yellow cab and briefly assaulted as crowds celebrated the Knickerbockers' first championship in 53 years. Video footage shared on social media showed a mob climbing atop his vehicle and smashing the windows while Noureddine watched in disbelief.
The disturbing video reached approximately 6 million viewers on X, drawing attention from prominent figures including rapper French Montana. The artist expressed his desire to help Noureddine recover from the financial devastation and connected with Zachery Dereniowski at the New York Taxi Workers Alliance to organize relief efforts.
The pair launched a GoFundMe campaign to assist the driver, whose livelihood depends on his vehicle. The fundraiser description detailed the severity of the incident and its impact on Noureddine's ability to work.
"Recently, during celebrations following a New York Knicks finals win, Noureddine's life was turned upside down," the fundraiser description reads. "His cab was vandalized, and he was reportedly assaulted and dragged from his vehicle by a crowd. In a matter of moments, the vehicle he was driving was severely damaged, leaving him facing an incredibly difficult situation."
The campaign resonated with donors across the country. More than 2,000 individuals contributed to the effort, raising approximately $76,000 to help restore Noureddine's business and provide financial stability following the attack.
