Pop singer Sia has finalized a divorce settlement with former husband Dan Bernad, agreeing to pay $42,500 per month in child support for their 2-year-old son, Somersault, according to court documents filed Monday, April 6.
The payments, which commenced April 1, will continue until the child reaches age 18. The settlement marks the conclusion of a contentious divorce process that began in March 2025, when the 50-year-old "Cheap Thrills" singer filed for dissolution of the marriage.
Beyond the monthly support payments, the agreement stipulates that Sia will cover private school tuition, mutually approved extracurricular activities, and uninsured healthcare costs for Somersault. The singer will also maintain health insurance coverage for the child.
The former couple will share joint legal custody under a detailed holiday schedule. Bernad will have custody during Father's Day and Jewish holidays including Yom Kippur, Passover, and Hanukkah. Sia will have the child for Mother's Day, Easter, and Christmas. The parents will alternate custody for Thanksgiving, Halloween, and other holiday periods. The custody arrangement takes effect in May.
The settlement follows a turbulent legal battle. In October 2025, Bernad filed paperwork requesting more than $250,000 monthly in spousal support, claiming financial hardship after Sia's company terminated funding for their joint business venture, Modern Medicine, in April 2025.
In those documents, Bernad stated he had no income, no real property, and minimal funds in his bank account. He requested $300,000 toward attorney fees and $200,000 for forensic accounting costs, arguing that Sia possessed greater financial resources to fund the litigation.
The couple married in May 2023 at a ceremony held at the Italian villa of fashion designers Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana in Portofino. The marriage lasted approximately two years before Sia initiated divorce proceedings.
Sia, who maintains a private personal life despite her celebrity status, is also mother to two sons she adopted as teenagers from the foster care system. Representatives for the singer have not responded to requests for comment regarding the settlement terms.
