Reality television personality Taylor Frankie Paul returned to social media on Sunday, March 29, marking her first public appearance since ABC Entertainment canceled her season of The Bachelorette earlier this month.

The 31-year-old star of Secret Lives of Mormon Wives shared a video on Instagram showing herself practicing piano while turned away from the camera. The post, which featured Paul wearing a hoodie, carried a lighthearted tone with the caption stating she had learned the piece that day and joked about having a future in piano.

The social media appearance comes just over one week after Disney Entertainment Television made the unprecedented decision to cancel the 22nd season of The Bachelorette on March 19. The network's announcement followed the publication of video footage by TMZ showing a February 2023 domestic violence incident involving Paul and her former partner, Dakota Mortensen.

A Disney Entertainment Television spokesperson addressed the cancellation directly, stating the company had made the decision not to move forward with the new season at that time, with their focus shifting to supporting the family involved.

The footage at the center of the controversy reportedly shows Paul throwing barstools at Mortensen, 33, during the 2023 incident, which occurred in the presence of one of her young children. Paul is the mother of three children: daughter Indy, 8, and son Ocean, 5, from her previous marriage to Tate Paul, and son Ever, 2, with Mortensen.

Following the video's release, Paul's representative issued a statement expressing gratitude for ABC's support while the reality star prioritizes her family's safety and security. The statement further alleged that Paul had endured years of mental and physical abuse as well as threats of retaliation, and that she was taking steps to protect herself and her children from further harm.

The legal ramifications of the incident have continued to unfold. Earlier this month, Mortensen filed for and was granted temporary custody of their son, along with a temporary protective order against Paul.

The controversy has also affected Paul's other television commitments. Production on the fifth season of The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives was paused following allegations of a separate domestic incident between Paul and Mortensen in February of this year.

The Draper City Police Department in Utah confirmed an open domestic assault investigation into the February incident. Authorities noted that allegations had been made in both directions and that contact was made with the involved parties on February 24 and 25.

On Wednesday, March 25, reports emerged of a third domestic violence investigation involving the former couple. The West Jordan Police Department in Utah was reportedly investigating an alleged dispute from 2024 after Mortensen contacted the department, according to NBC News.

The cancellation of The Bachelorette season represents a significant setback for ABC's flagship reality dating franchise and raises questions about the network's vetting processes for potential leads. The decision underscores the increasing scrutiny faced by reality television personalities and the networks that feature them, particularly when allegations of domestic violence emerge.

Neither Paul nor Mortensen had provided additional public comment beyond the initial statements from their representatives at the time of the cancellation announcement.
