Tragic Echo of Past Violence
The shooting comes more than three years after Offset's former Migos bandmate Takeoff was killed at age 28 in a fatal shooting in Houston, Texas. Takeoff, whose real name was Kirsnick Khari Ball, was reportedly an innocent bystander struck in the crossfire during an argument at a high-stakes dice game in November 2022.
Patrick Xavier Clark was charged with Takeoff's murder in November 2022 and is awaiting trial. He maintains his innocence. More than 20,000 people attended Takeoff's public memorial at Atlanta's State Farm Arena.
In a 2023 interview with Variety, Offset discussed the profound impact of losing his bandmate. "Talking about all this s*** is hard. That's why I don't, to be honest," he acknowledged. "That s*** hurts. Like, it's gonna put me in a mood, and I don't want to get in that mood. Some things I don't never tell nobody."
He added: "[Takeoff is] not here. That s*** feels fake, bro. I get through my day thinking it's fake. And I don't say nothing to nobody about it."
Personal Life and Recent Developments
Offset's estranged wife, rapper Cardi B, has not yet publicly responded to the shooting. The couple tied the knot in Atlanta in September 2017 and share three children: daughter Kulture Kiari Cephus, son Wave Set Cephus, and daughter Blossom Belle Cephus.
Cardi B went public with her split from Offset in December 2023 and subsequently filed for divorce in July 2024. Offset is also father to three children from previous relationships: sons Jordan Cephus and Kody Cephus, and daughter Kalea Marie Cephus. Cardi B welcomed a son with Stefon Diggs in November 2025.
During an October 2025 interview on the "Baby, This Is Keke Palmer" podcast, Offset admitted that he regretted the way his marriage to Cardi B ended. "I should have respected her way more. I made bad decisions, like stepping out," Offset told host Keke Palmer. "Gotta take that on the chin. When she left, I had to take that on the chin. … We got so much, our kids, to live for. I was being selfish, and I can say that as a man."
The investigation into Monday's shooting continues, with authorities working to determine the circumstances that led to the violence outside the popular South Florida entertainment venue.
