The Los Angeles County District Attorney will file criminal charges against D4vd on Monday, April 21, 2026, following his arrest for the alleged murder of Celeste Rivas, according to sources connected to the case. The filing deadline represents a critical juncture in a case that has stretched across months of investigation and public scrutiny.

Monday marks the legal deadline for prosecutors to either charge D4vd with a crime or release him from police custody. Sources indicate that the Los Angeles County District Attorney's office will proceed with formal charges after the LAPD applied significant pressure on prosecutors to move forward with the case.

D4vd was arrested Thursday in what has been characterized as a huge show of force by the LAPD. Attorney Mark Geragos, speaking on the "2 Angry Men" podcast, stated that law enforcement officials were frustrated with the prolonged wait and arrested D4vd to force prosecutors' hand in making a charging decision.

The investigation has been with the District Attorney's office for months. A grand jury was convened in November, and more than seven months have elapsed since police discovered Celeste Rivas's decomposing body in the trunk of D4vd's Tesla. The extended timeline has raised questions about the pace of the prosecution's case development.

A high-ranking LAPD source revealed that the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner determined the manner of death to be homicide. This official declaration appears to have been a critical factor in law enforcement's decision to proceed with the arrest, as investigators awaited the formal medical determination before taking action.

The case now rests entirely with the prosecution, which will finalize charges on Monday. The nature and severity of those charges remain to be disclosed, though the investigation has centered on allegations of murder in connection with Rivas's death.

Attorneys representing D4vd, whose legal name is David Burke, issued a statement asserting their client's innocence. "Let us be clear - the actual evidence in this case will show that David Burke did not murder Celeste Rivas Hernandez and he was not the cause of her death," the defense team stated.

The forthcoming charges will mark a significant development in a case that has drawn considerable attention due to the circumstances surrounding Rivas's death and the extended investigation period. Monday's filing will formally initiate the criminal proceedings and establish the legal framework for the prosecution's case against Burke.
