Law enforcement authorities in Lake Havasu City are conducting a forensic examination of Darrell Sheets' cellphone as part of an ongoing investigation into cyberbullying allegations that emerged following the reality television star's death last month.

The Lake Havasu City Police Department released a statement on Tuesday confirming that the Mohave County Medical Examiner's Office has ruled the manner of death in the case involving Sheets as suicide, pending completion of toxicology results. The department emphasized that its investigation into alleged cyberbullying remains active.

"Our agency continues to actively investigate allegations of cyberbullying associated with this case," the police department stated. "The Criminal Investigations Unit has submitted Darrell Sheets' cellular phone for forensic analysis and is currently awaiting the results. This investigative step is essential to advancing the case."

Authorities indicated that additional information will be released as it becomes available, though no timeline was provided for the completion of the forensic analysis or the broader investigation.

Sheets, who gained recognition as "The Gambler" on the A&E reality series Storage Wars from 2010 to 2023, died in Lake Havasu City, Arizona, at age 67. The full autopsy report has not yet been released to the public.

Following news of his death, A&E released a statement expressing condolences. "We are saddened by the passing of a beloved member of our Storage Wars family, Darrell 'The Gambler' Sheets," a network spokesperson said. "Our thoughts are with his family and loved ones during this difficult time."

The cyberbullying allegations first surfaced publicly when Rene Nezhoda, Sheets' Storage Wars costar and onscreen rival, spoke to media outlets about the issue. Nezhoda, 49, asserted that Sheets had been subjected to online harassment.

"Just cause you watch us on television doesn't mean you know us … it doesn't mean you know what we're about. Also it doesn't entitle you to bully somebody," Nezhoda stated. "You shouldn't cyberbully at all."

Nezhoda further claimed that Sheets "withdrew from social media" during the final weeks of his life as a result of the alleged harassment. The nature and extent of the cyberbullying allegations remain under investigation by Lake Havasu City authorities.

The investigation represents a significant effort by local law enforcement to examine the potential role of online harassment in the circumstances surrounding Sheets' death. Digital forensic analysis of personal devices has become an increasingly important tool for investigators examining cyberbullying cases, as such examinations can reveal patterns of communication, threatening messages, and other evidence relevant to criminal investigations.

The Lake Havasu City Police Department has not disclosed specific details about the nature of the alleged cyberbullying or identified any potential suspects in the ongoing investigation. The department's decision to pursue forensic analysis indicates that authorities are treating the allegations with serious investigative attention.

As the investigation continues, the case highlights broader concerns about online harassment and its potential impact on mental health. The completion of toxicology results and the forensic analysis of Sheets' phone are expected to provide additional information that may inform the ongoing investigation.
