Olivia Rodrigo has definitively addressed longstanding speculation about a feud with Sabrina Carpenter, confirming that the two artists maintain a positive relationship despite years of rumored tension.

In an interview with British Vogue published on Thursday, March 19, Rodrigo, 23, spoke warmly about Carpenter, 26, dispelling persistent rumors of animosity between the two pop stars.

"I think she's great," Rodrigo stated. "I'm so happy for all of her success too. I love the album she's put out." She emphasized that everything is "good" between them, adding, "It's all love, though. I've talked to her many times."

The speculation originated in 2021 following the release of Rodrigo's breakout hit "Driver's License," which contained lyrics referencing a "blonde girl" in connection with an ex-boyfriend. Fans quickly theorized the song addressed a romantic triangle involving Rodrigo, Carpenter, and Joshua Bassett, Rodrigo's former High School Musical: The Musical: The Series costar.

Carpenter and Bassett reportedly began dating after his split from Rodrigo, though their relationship ended in 2021. The situation intensified when Carpenter released her song "Skin," which featured the line "Maybe blonde was the only rhyme," widely interpreted as a response to Rodrigo's track.

Carpenter previously addressed the controversy in a June 2025 interview with Rolling Stone, stating she did not intentionally create drama. "All I knew was that it wasn't going to stop me from doing what I loved, ever," she explained. "That's kind of how I've always felt. Sometimes, it's about how you are able to be resilient."

Bassett also weighed in on the situation during a 2021 interview with GQ, urging the public to focus on the artists' work rather than their personal lives. "Why don't we focus on these women for who they are?" he asked. "Let's focus on the art that they're making and how great they are instead of their relationship to a boy."

Despite the rumors, Rodrigo and Carpenter have maintained cordial interactions at industry events. The two shared a hug at the 2025 Grammy Awards, where Carpenter received Best Pop Vocal Album for her record Short 'N Sweet and Best Pop Solo Performance for "Espresso."

Reflecting on the period when "Driver's License" launched her career, Rodrigo acknowledged the intense pressure she faced as a teenager. "Sometimes I meet a 17 or an 18-year-old nowadays and I'm like, 'Wow, you are such a baby.' I can't believe people were that mean to me," she told British Vogue.

The singer described the challenges of navigating a breakup while working full-time, creating her debut album Sour, and maintaining her high school coursework, including three Advanced Placement classes. "Looking back, I always think, 'Wow, life will never be as hard as it was when I was 17,'" she recalled.

The clarification from Rodrigo provides closure to one of pop music's most scrutinized celebrity relationships, demonstrating how both artists have matured and moved forward in their respective careers.
