A Manhattan court has offered a conditional path to dismissal for assault charges filed against Mingus Reedus, a 26-year-old artist based in New York City. The charges, stemming from an August 2025 incident, could be dismissed and sealed if specific conditions are met over the next twelve months.
During a court appearance on Monday, March 9, Reedus accepted a Family Adjournment in Contemplation of Dismissal and agreed to a full order of protection, according to documents obtained by media outlets. The Manhattan District Attorney's Office confirmed that the defendant must remain arrest-free for one year and comply with all terms of the protective order.
If these conditions are satisfied, the case will be dismissed and sealed following the twelve-month period. This legal mechanism allows certain defendants to avoid a criminal record if they demonstrate compliance with court-ordered terms.
The charges originated from an incident on August 23, 2025, when the New York Police Department arrested Reedus and took him into custody. Officers reported that a 33-year-old woman at the scene presented with neck and leg injuries. He was subsequently charged with reckless physical injury, aggravated harassment, and second-degree harassment. Reedus pleaded not guilty to all charges.
Attorney Priya Chaudhry, representing Reedus, issued a statement emphasizing the significance of the misdemeanor-level charges and the court's decision to release her client on his own recognizance without bail or supervision. "Despite what the prosecutor said in court — which is not evidence — they chose to charge Mingus with misdemeanors or less. This speaks volumes, and much louder than the unsupported prosecutor's in-court comments," Chaudhry stated.
The attorney further emphasized the presumption of innocence, stating that as facts emerge, her client's innocence would become clear. The judicial decision to release Reedus without restrictive conditions was characterized as a significant factor in the case.
This marks the second time Reedus has faced assault charges in New York. A previous incident occurred in September 2021, when an unidentified woman alleged that he punched her in the face. The disposition of that earlier case has not been publicly disclosed.
Reedus is the son of actor Norman Reedus and model Helena Christensen, both 57, who were romantically involved from 1998 to 2003. He was born in 1999 and graduated from New York University. His parents have not publicly addressed either arrest.
The conditional dismissal agreement represents a common prosecutorial approach in certain cases, particularly those involving first-time offenders or circumstances where rehabilitation and compliance are deemed appropriate alternatives to conviction. The protective order will remain in effect throughout the adjournment period, providing legal safeguards for the alleged victim while allowing the defendant an opportunity to demonstrate reformed conduct.
