Kimora Lee Simmons' Husband Files for Divorce

Fashion entrepreneur Kimora Lee Simmons faces a new chapter as her estranged husband, financier Tim Leissner, has officially filed for divorce after more than a decade of marriage. Court documents reveal that the 56-year-old Leissner initiated dissolution proceedings on February 4 in Los Angeles Superior Court, citing irreconcilable differences as the basis for ending the union.

The divorce petition notably omits a specific separation date, though reports indicate the couple has been living apart since at least 2022. This extended period of separation suggests the relationship deteriorated well before formal legal action commenced, a pattern increasingly common in high-profile divorces where couples maintain privacy during transitional periods.

Financial matters form a contentious centerpiece of the proceedings. Leissner is seeking spousal support from Simmons, 50, while simultaneously requesting the court block her from collecting any financial support from him. Additionally, he has asked that Simmons cover his legal fees, setting the stage for what could become a complex financial dispute between the former partners.

The couple shares one child together, Wolfe Lee Leissner, who is 11 years old. Simmons brings extensive parenting experience to the situation, having raised a blended family that includes daughters Ming, 25, and Aoki, 23, from her first marriage to Russell Simmons, as well as son Kenzo, 16, with ex-boyfriend Djimon Hounsou. She has also raised bonus son Jaden, 19, since he was a young child, and adopted son Gary, 16, in 2020.

Leissner's legal troubles have cast a long shadow over the marriage. The former Goldman Sachs director pleaded guilty in 2018 to conspiring to launder money and conspiring to violate the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act for his alleged involvement in a money-laundering scheme with the Malaysian government's state-owned investment and development fund, 1Malaysia Development Berhad. The case represented one of the most significant financial scandals in recent international banking history.

The consequences proved severe. As part of his plea deal, Leissner forfeited $43 million and shares of stock valued at more than $200 million, according to the U.S. Justice Department announcement in 2023. In February, Leissner reportedly began serving a two-year sentence in federal prison, a development that may have influenced the timing of the divorce filing.

The relationship between Simmons and Leissner began shortly after her split from Hounsou in 2012. Their marriage became public knowledge in 2014 when Russell Simmons revealed the union while debunking reports that his ex-wife was dating rapper Birdman. In a social media post at the time, Russell Simmons wrote, "All of us love @OfficialKimora but the fact is she is happily married. Tim has been family for a while now."

Simmons' relationship history includes her previous marriage to Def Jam cofounder Russell Simmons and her subsequent relationship with two-time Oscar-nominated actor Hounsou. In December 2025, she candidly discussed her current family dynamics, revealing that she does not have a relationship with any of her children's fathers.

"Usually I would say that I co-parent okay, but the kids are with me full-time," Simmons explained in an interview. "I'm pretty much the primary parent. It's difficult, but I don't know sometimes what other people are thinking. Guys are weird."

At the time of that interview, Simmons confirmed she was happily single and emphasized her independence. "Life doesn't ever revolve around a guy, ever," she stated, articulating a philosophy that appears to have guided her approach to relationships and family life.

She further reflected on her role as primary caregiver, stating, "I am thankful I'm able to be there for my family in ways that other people or parents are not. If I wasn't this person, I don't know if we would've made it or if we would be okay. It's been very important to me to be strong and self-reliant, and to constantly be growing."

Representatives for Simmons have not yet responded to requests for comment regarding the divorce filing. As the legal proceedings unfold, questions remain about custody arrangements for Wolfe Lee Leissner and the ultimate resolution of the financial disputes between the estranged spouses. The case underscores the complex intersection of personal relationships and legal consequences when one partner faces significant criminal liability.
