The divorce between reality television personalities Jax Taylor and Brittany Cartwright has escalated, with Taylor's attorney accusing Cartwright of deliberately extending the proceedings and damaging his client's career. Mark Vincent Kaplan, representing Taylor, made the allegations in comments to TMZ.com on Friday, November 6, 2026.
Kaplan asserted that Taylor initially had no desire to pursue financial support from Cartwright. "From the beginning of these divorce proceedings, our client, Jax Taylor, made it clear that he had no intention of seeking spousal or child support. His only objective was to resolve this divorce as quickly, privately, and amicably as possible," Kaplan told TMZ.com.
However, Kaplan contends that Cartwright has engaged in what he described as a "deliberate and sustained campaign of public disparagement and professional interference," speaking to TMZ.com. He alleged that her actions have included "direct interference with potential employment opportunities, including opportunities within the entertainment industry, significantly impacting his ability to earn a living," he told TMZ.com.
According to Kaplan, Cartwright has also failed to deliver updated financial records that were promised, a failure that has driven up legal costs for Taylor. Kaplan further suggested that the timing of the divorce proceedings may be connected to Cartwright's television work. "The fact that these proceedings continue to be unnecessarily prolonged by Ms. Cartwright while she is actively filming a reality television series seems beyond coincidental," he told TMZ.com.
Kaplan maintained that Taylor's support request "is not an act of retaliation," speaking to TMZ.com, but rather a necessary step to safeguard his finances given Cartwright's alleged conduct.
Court filings previously reported indicate that Taylor is asking a judge to order Cartwright to pay him $17,401 per month in spousal support. He is also seeking $250,000 toward attorney fees and an additional $10,000 to cover a forensic accountant.
Kaplan stated that Taylor is focused on his sobriety, on rebuilding his life, and on protecting their son, but he emphasized that moving the divorce forward will demand effort from both parties.
