Hollywood Tensions Flare as Actress Criticizes Former Costar's Political Alignment

Political divisions within Hollywood have surfaced once again as actress Lauren Holly, 62, publicly criticized her former costar Dennis Quaid following his recent appearance alongside President Donald Trump and Senator Ted Cruz aboard Air Force One.

The controversy emerged after Quaid, 71, traveled to Corpus Christi, Texas, on February 27 to attend a presidential address. Holly, who worked alongside Quaid in the 1999 sports drama "Any Given Sunday," took to social media platform Threads to express her disapproval of his political activities.

"At least I got to slap him real hard in Any Given Sunday," Holly wrote in her initial post, referencing a scene from their film collaboration where she portrayed the wife of Quaid's character, an aging professional quarterback.

The incident that prompted Holly's response involved footage shared by Senator Cruz, showing Quaid and President Trump in conversation aboard the presidential aircraft. In the video, Cruz asked Quaid—who portrayed President Ronald Reagan in a 2024 biographical film—to channel his character's perspective on the current administration.

Quaid responded with a Reagan impression, stating: "Well, I think he's like me on steroids, actually."

Holly's commentary did not end with her initial post. When social media users engaged with her remarks, she continued to express her disapproval. One user inquired whether she could "slap the whole regime really hard," to which Holly replied, "I would if I could." In response to footage of Quaid declaring his affection for President Trump at the Texas event, Holly commented: "It's crazy to me at this point."

When another user praised her willingness to publicly challenge what they termed "fascists," Holly responded with a succinct "Any means," suggesting her commitment to continued vocal opposition.

Quaid has maintained a consistent public stance regarding his political preferences in recent years. In a 2024 interview with "Piers Morgan Uncensored," the actor stated that "the only thing I liked about Trump was everything he did" during his presidency. He characterized his political identity as that of "a common-sense independent" while acknowledging conservative leanings.

The actor has praised President Trump's personal qualities in various interviews, describing him as "very personable, incredibly funny, a good listener and a surprisingly approachable person." Quaid has also emphasized what he perceives as the President's authenticity, stating: "The people who voted for him, they know that he has their best interests at heart, that he is a genuine person."

The public exchange between Holly and Quaid represents a broader pattern of political tension within the entertainment industry. As public figures increasingly vocalize their political positions, professional relationships formed during collaborative projects have occasionally become strained by ideological differences.

Quaid, who has been married four times, recently discussed the role of faith in his current marriage to Laura Savoie. The couple married in June 2020 in Santa Barbara, California. The actor has described how religious belief serves as a foundational element in their relationship, stating that having "God be the third entity in the relationship" represents a significant departure from his previous marriages.

Neither Quaid nor his representatives have publicly responded to Holly's social media commentary. The incident underscores the challenges facing individuals in the public eye as they navigate personal political convictions while maintaining professional relationships within an increasingly polarized cultural landscape.

The situation continues to generate discussion on social media platforms, with users expressing varied perspectives on both Holly's public criticism and Quaid's political activities. As political discourse remains a prominent feature of American public life, similar tensions between entertainment industry professionals appear likely to persist.
