A promotional event for an upcoming horror film sequel turned unexpectedly dramatic on Wednesday, March 25, when a fire erupted at a renowned Parisian hotel, forcing the evacuation of cast members and guests during a scheduled press junket.
Actors Sarah Michelle Gellar, Elijah Wood, and Kathryn Newton were among those evacuated from Le Bristol Paris after a blaze ignited at approximately 11 a.m. local time. The fire originated at 114 Faubourg, a restaurant adjacent to the five-star hotel, while the trio was conducting interviews for their film Ready or Not 2: Here I Come.
A spokesperson for Le Bristol Paris confirmed that all guests were safely evacuated and subsequently permitted to return to the premises. The hotel and its facilities have since reopened, with the exception of the 114 Faubourg restaurant where the fire occurred.
Fanny Crawford, communications director for Le Bristol Paris, issued a statement expressing gratitude to emergency responders. Crawford commended first responders "for their prompt intervention and professionalism" and thanked guests "for their understanding, calm, and cooperation in response to this situation."
Crawford emphasized the establishment's commitment to safety protocols. "The safety of our staff and guests remains our absolute priority," she stated. "Our teams remain fully mobilized to ensure a return to normal operations under the best possible conditions."
Despite the potentially serious nature of the incident, the evacuated actors maintained a lighthearted perspective. Newton, 29, and Gellar, 48, documented their evacuation in a social media video that was later removed. In the clip, Gellar displayed her comfortable white slippers while Newton wore sleek black high heels.
"The difference between how I escape a fire, and how Kathryn escapes a fire," Gellar remarked in the video, gesturing to her footwear choice. Newton responded with characteristic humor, stating, "I never take them off!"
The actors also confirmed in subsequent footage that they had managed to retrieve their morning coffee during the evacuation, demonstrating their composure during the emergency.
Le Bristol Paris represents one of the French capital's most distinguished hospitality establishments. The hotel first opened in 1925 and has maintained its prestigious reputation for nearly a century. During World War II, the property served as a temporary American embassy, and in the post-war era, it became a favored destination for international celebrities, including Hollywood legends Rita Hayworth and Charlie Chaplin.
The press junket was organized to promote Ready or Not 2: Here I Come, the sequel to directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett's 2019 horror film Ready or Not. The original film followed bride-to-be Grace, portrayed by Samara Weaving, as she survived a deadly weekend with her future in-laws. In the sequel, Weaving reprises her role, this time working to rescue her estranged sister Faith, played by Newton, from elite families using her as part of a sinister ritual.
The film, released under the title Wedding Nightmare 2 in France and select international markets, is currently playing in theaters. French audiences will have access to the film beginning April 8.
No injuries were reported from the incident, and hotel operations have returned to normal following the swift response from Parisian emergency services. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
