Haylie Duff and fiancé Matthew Rosenberg have ended their relationship after 14 years together, according to confirmation from the actress's spokesperson on Monday, April 20.
The Napoleon Dynamite actress, 41, and Rosenberg concluded their relationship earlier this year. Duff has requested privacy during this period to protect her daughters Ryan, 10, and Lulu, 7, whom she shares with Rosenberg.
The couple's relationship began in 2012, and Rosenberg proposed two years later in what Duff described at the time as a genuine surprise. Writing on her Real Girl's Kitchen blog following the engagement, she shared her excitement about the unexpected proposal.
"This week has seriously just become the best week of my life!" Duff wrote. "As if announcing The Real Girl's Kitchen tv show wasn't enough, Matt just took me by total surprise and proposed … on April Fool's Day of all days! The moment was genuine and sweet (like him!) and I couldn't wait to say yes!"
She continued at the time, "We are so excited and happy to share our wonderful news with everyone! We both feel so blessed to have the love and support of our family and friends and can't wait to start this new adventure!"
Despite their engagement, the couple never rushed to formalize their union with a wedding ceremony. In April 2020, nearly a decade after becoming engaged, Duff explained their perspective on marriage timing.
"We're busy with both of the kids and jobs, and we always say, 'We will at some point,' and then life continues to be busy, and we still really like each other, which is good, I guess," she told Us Weekly. "At some point we will, but certainly now is not the time to have a wedding."
The breakup announcement arrives during a particularly challenging period for Haylie Duff, who remains estranged from her sister, Hilary Duff. The younger Duff sister publicly confirmed their falling out earlier this year, revealing that the estrangement inspired her song "We Don't Talk."
"Absolutely the most lonely part of my existence is not having my sister in my life at the moment," Hilary told CBS Mornings. "It's my truth, and so many people are [also] having this experience. It's hard because I am me, and people know everything about my life since I was a child. I didn't necessarily choose that part, but it's my reality. It was honestly, like, healing to say."
Hilary later elaborated on the estrangement during an episode of the "On Purpose With Jay Shetty" podcast, noting the surprising prevalence of sibling estrangement among adults.
"My sister and I don't speak. And I think in my adulthood I've come across more and more people that are having this experience," Hilary said. "And as painful as it feels to share, when I decided to make this record, I could only talk about the things that I've gone through."
Haylie Duff has not publicly addressed her estrangement from Hilary or provided additional comment regarding her separation from Rosenberg.
