The New Albany Police Department confirmed Saturday that former NFL wide receiver Rondale Moore was found deceased at a residential property in the southern Indiana community. Moore, who grew up in the area and attended Trinity High School, was 25 years old.
According to New Albany Police Chief Todd Bailey, Moore was discovered in the garage of a property, and authorities suspect the death was self-inflicted. The department has launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
"The New Albany Police Department is currently conducting an investigation into the incident," Chief Bailey stated. "Due to the ongoing nature of the investigation, no additional information will be released at this time."
From Local Standout to Professional Athlete
Moore established himself as a football standout at Trinity High School before advancing to Purdue University, where he made a significant impact as a wide receiver. His former college coach, Jeff Brohm, remembered Moore as an exceptional athlete and person who left a lasting impression on everyone he encountered.
"He was a complete joy to coach and the ultimate competitor that would never back down to any challenge," Brohm told Louisville television station WLKY. "Rondale has a work ethic that was unmatched by anyone. A great teammate that would come through in any situation. We all loved Rondale and we loved his smile and competitive edge that always wanted to please everyone he came in contact with."
The Arizona Cardinals selected Moore in the second round of the 2021 NFL Draft, marking the beginning of his professional career. He spent three seasons with the Cardinals before being traded to the Atlanta Falcons in 2024.
Career Hampered by Injuries
Moore's professional career was significantly impacted by a series of injuries. He missed his entire first season with the Falcons after suffering a knee injury during training camp. The Minnesota Vikings acquired Moore in May 2025 through a trade with the Falcons, but his tenure with the team was cut short by another devastating injury.
During the Vikings' preseason opener against the Houston Texans on August 9, 2025, Moore sustained a season-ending knee injury following a tackle by linebacker Jamal Hill. The injury required Moore to be assisted off the field, and Vikings head coach Kevin O'Connell later described the incident as "heartbreaking" and the injury as "pretty significant."
"It's one of the most painful things for me as a head coach when I feel that emotion," O'Connell told reporters following the injury. "I make a life out of trying to leave others better than I found them. In that situation, there is nothing I can do, which is the worst feeling as a coach."
Despite the setbacks, Moore remained determined and resilient. In a 2023 interview with Arizona Sports, he addressed the challenges he faced with characteristic determination.
"It is what it is. I work my tail off every day. I do what I'm supposed to do," Moore stated. "It's just been an unfortunate turn of events and I haven't been able to get it done. But at the end of the day, I know that I've done everything in my power to be out there."
Community Impact
Moore's death represents a significant loss for the New Albany community, where he established his foundation as an athlete and maintained connections throughout his professional career. His journey from Trinity High School to the NFL served as an inspiration for young athletes in the region.
The Minnesota Vikings organization has been contacted for official comment regarding Moore's passing. The investigation by the New Albany Police Department remains ongoing.
