Amy Duggar King has reversed her position on supporting family member Kendra Duggar after the latter's arrest on child endangerment charges, shifting her focus instead to the welfare of the children involved in the unfolding legal case.

During a Saturday, March 21 interview, the 39-year-old acknowledged that recent developments had fundamentally altered her understanding of the situation. She characterized Kendra's arrest as an unexpected development, explaining that her original statement of support was based on incomplete information available at the time.

"I'm just going to steer that statement towards the kids because that's what matters right now, is the kids' safety, the victim and her family, and the four children that were in [Joseph and Kendra's] home," Amy Duggar King stated. "That is where my heart lies."

The cascade of legal troubles began on Wednesday, March 18, when Joseph Duggar, 31, was arrested on charges of lewd and lascivious behavior involving molestation of a victim less than 12 years old, as well as lewd and lascivious behavior conducted by a person 18 years or older. Authorities allege that Joseph molested a 9-year-old girl during a vacation in Panama City Beach, Florida, in 2020.

Amy Duggar King initially released a measured statement on Thursday, March 19, expressing prayers for Kendra as she processed the allegations against her husband. That statement also called for justice to be served while acknowledging the incomplete picture of events.

The situation escalated on Friday, March 20, when both Joseph and Kendra Duggar were arrested on four counts of endangering the welfare of a minor in the second degree and four counts of second-degree false imprisonment. These charges are separate from the molestation allegations against Joseph.

According to a source familiar with the matter, Kendra's arrest stemmed from a home study conducted automatically after Joseph's initial charges, given that minors reside in the household. Investigators reportedly discovered that two rooms in the residence had doorknob locks installed on the outside rather than the inside, which authorities interpreted as evidence of wrongful detention of children. The couple's four children were subsequently removed from the home.

Amy Duggar King expressed emotional difficulty in reconciling the allegations with her previous relationship with the couple. She described searching through news articles seeking answers and acknowledged the painful impact on those who cared about Joseph and Kendra.

"The person that I thought I knew is apparently not the person he is today," she stated. "I will hold him accountable and I want justice to be served to the fullest."

She reserved particular sympathy for the alleged victim in the molestation case, noting that the individual should have been safe and protected. The alleged victim, now 14 years old, came forward with the accusations that led to Joseph's arrest.

The Duggar family has not yet issued a public statement regarding the arrests or the charges. The legal proceedings are ongoing, and both Joseph and Kendra Duggar face serious criminal allegations that could result in significant legal consequences.

Amy Duggar King's shift in position reflects the complex dynamics facing extended family members as new information emerges in high-profile criminal cases. Her decision to prioritize the welfare of the children involved underscores the gravity of the allegations and the potential impact on vulnerable individuals within the family structure.
