Demi Moore commemorated her ex-husband Bruce Willis's 71st birthday on Thursday, March 19, with a rare public tribute that underscored the enduring bond between the former couple despite their 2000 divorce.

The 63-year-old actress shared photographs on Instagram depicting Willis embracing their 2-year-old granddaughter Louetta, daughter of their eldest child Rumer Willis. The tender images showed the toddler kissing her grandfather on the cheek, prompting Moore to caption the post with a simple message: "All you need is LOVE. Happy birthday, BW."

Moore additionally shared the photographs via her Instagram Story, describing them as "generational birthday love." The public gesture drew supportive comments from fellow actors, including Rita Wilson, who wrote, "Happy Birthday Bruce!!!!! we love you!"

The birthday tributes arrived as Willis's family continues navigating his diagnosis with frontotemporal dementia. His wife Emma Heming Willis, 47, utilized the occasion to advance awareness efforts for the degenerative condition that has profoundly altered the action star's life.

"This journey with frontotemporal dementia has opened my eyes to the realities so many families face," Emma Heming Willis wrote in her own birthday tribute. "It's what inspired me to create The Emma & Bruce Willis Fund to raise awareness of FTD, support research, and stand beside the caregivers who carry so much every day."

The fund, formally launched on March 12 during the Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration's Hope Rising Benefit in New York City, aims to advance understanding of the disease while strengthening support systems for caregivers. Emma Heming Willis encouraged well-wishers to honor her husband by supporting dementia research organizations or reaching out to caregivers in their communities.

Willis's health challenges became public knowledge in 2022 when his family announced his retirement from acting following an aphasia diagnosis. The family provided an updated diagnosis in 2023, confirming the actor was battling frontotemporal dementia, a progressive neurological disorder affecting behavior, language, and movement.

The severity of Willis's condition necessitated significant lifestyle adjustments. Last August, Emma Heming Willis disclosed that her husband had been relocated to a specialized care facility equipped to provide round-the-clock medical attention. Speaking during an ABC special, she characterized the decision as among the most difficult she has faced, though one made with their daughters' well-being as the primary consideration.

"He would want them to be in a home that was more tailored to their needs, not his needs," Emma Heming Willis explained, referring to the couple's two daughters, Mabel, 13, and Evelyn, 11. The pair have been married since 2009.

Willis also shares three adult daughters—Rumer, Scout, and Tallulah—from his 13-year marriage to Moore. Despite the dissolution of their marriage more than two decades ago, Moore has remained actively involved in supporting Willis and their children throughout his health decline.

In a September 2025 podcast interview, Moore acknowledged the emotional toll of witnessing the transformation of someone once characterized by strength and vitality. "It's hard to see somebody who was so vibrant and strong and so directed sift into these other parts of themselves," the Oscar-nominated actress stated.

Nevertheless, Moore emphasized the importance of accepting individuals in their current state rather than clinging to past expectations. "When you do that, I find that there is an incredible sweetness and something that's soft and tender and loving," she reflected. "Perhaps it is more playful and child-like in a certain sense because of how much more caretaking they need."

The family's public approach to Willis's diagnosis has drawn attention to frontotemporal dementia, a condition that typically affects individuals between ages 45 and 64 and currently has no cure. Through their advocacy efforts and personal testimonies, both Moore and Emma Heming Willis have provided insight into the realities facing families navigating degenerative neurological diseases while honoring the enduring connections that transcend illness.
