A prominent billionaire benefactor has severed ties with Democratic Congressman Eric Swalwell in dramatic fashion, evicting him from a Beverly Hills mansion and demanding the return of substantial campaign contributions as the politician faces mounting legal troubles.

Billionaire Stephen Cloobeck announced in an interview with the California Post that he has expelled Swalwell from his Beverly Hills residence and is seeking to recoup $1 million he contributed to the congressman's now-defunct gubernatorial campaign. The forceful rebuke represents a significant abandonment by a major political donor as Swalwell confronts serious allegations.

The Democratic Congressman from California faces accusations from multiple women, including some who worked for him, alleging sexual assault and other sexual misconduct. Swalwell has denied any wrongdoing but is currently the subject of a criminal investigation. The allegations precipitated his withdrawal from the California gubernatorial race over the weekend.

Swalwell had been residing at Cloobeck's mansion as a guest, and notably filmed his video denial of the allegations from the property prior to ending his gubernatorial bid. However, Cloobeck made clear to the California Post that the congressman is no longer welcome to return to the residence.

The billionaire's disillusionment extends beyond his personal relationship with Swalwell. Cloobeck indicated his frustration with the situation has prompted a complete political realignment, stating he is abandoning the Democratic Party and now identifies as a Libertarian.

The rapid deterioration of Swalwell's political standing represents a stunning reversal for the congressman, who had positioned himself as a gubernatorial contender before the allegations emerged. The loss of major financial backing and housing arrangements compounds the legal and political challenges now confronting the embattled politician as the criminal investigation proceeds.
