Apple Martin, the eldest child of actress Gwyneth Paltrow and Coldplay frontman Chris Martin, has issued a firm denial of unsubstantiated claims suggesting she was expelled from an educational institution due to bullying behavior.
On Monday, February 16, the 21-year-old addressed the allegations directly through her Instagram Stories, sharing a screenshot of a comment she had posted in response to the circulating rumors. The post was prefaced with a simple message: "Just a quick little message from myself."
In her statement, Martin categorically rejected the narrative that had gained traction online. "Hi! I did not want to respond but this narrative is completely false and has gotten so out of hand," she wrote. "I have never been expelled from any school, especially not for bullying anyone."
The young woman, who is currently pursuing studies in law, history, and society at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, acknowledged the reality of public scrutiny while maintaining her stance on the false allegations. "I completely understand people not liking me and that is okay," Martin continued in her response. "The internet is a place where people can share their opinions. But this rumor is completely untrue. I am not that type of person and anyone who is close to me knows that."
Martin is scheduled to graduate from Vanderbilt in May, according to a recent profile published in Vogue magazine. The profile revealed that while she initially harbored ambitions of attending law school following her undergraduate studies, she has since decided to pursue a career in acting, following in the footsteps of her Academy Award-winning mother.
"I was in that rebellious, 'I do not want to be like my parents' type of phase," Martin explained to Vogue regarding her earlier law school aspirations. She has since embraced her creative interests, stating, "I love dancing and I love acting. My dream is to act."
This is not the first instance in which Martin has faced public criticism and required defense from those who know her personally. In November 2024, she made her high society debut at Le Bal des Débutantes in Paris, an exclusive event attended by her parents and younger brother Moses, 19. Following the event, social media commentary accused her of exhibiting "mean girl" behavior after a video showed her confidently posing for photographs alongside fellow debutante Aliénor Loppin de Montmort.
Loppin de Montmort subsequently defended Martin's character in a statement to media outlets. "She is genuinely the nicest girl ever! She really does not deserve an ounce of what she is getting," Loppin de Montmort stated in December 2024. "She was the nicest girl ever towards not only me but all the debutantes."
Martin's parents, who married in December 2003 and announced their separation through a now-famous "conscious uncoupling" statement in March 2014, have maintained a committed co-parenting relationship. Their divorce was finalized in July 2016, but both have spoken publicly about their dedication to prioritizing their children's well-being.
Paltrow, 53, has previously addressed the challenges of maintaining a collaborative parenting relationship post-divorce. "Chris and I committed to putting them first and that is harder than it looks because some days you really do not want to be with the person that you are getting divorced from," the actress explained during a 2020 television appearance. "But if you are committed to having family dinner, then you do it. You take a deep breath, and you look the person in the eye, and you remember your pact, and you smile, and you hug, and you recommit to this new relationship that you are trying to foster."
The incident highlights the ongoing challenges faced by children of prominent public figures, who must navigate both legitimate scrutiny and unfounded rumors in an era of rapid social media dissemination. Martin's direct response represents an attempt to reclaim her narrative and establish boundaries regarding what she considers false characterizations of her conduct and academic record.
