The Saint Simeon church complex, a 5th-century Christian heritage site in Aleppo, Syria, has reopened to visitors after 14 years of closure, according to a report by Good News Network. Syria's Directorate-General of Antiquities and Museums officially reopened the Byzantine-era site on October 2 with a ceremony, marking the end of a rehabilitation and restoration process that also involved clearing the remnants of war.

The restoration work at the site included clearing landmines, a necessary step before the complex could safely welcome the public again. The reopening follows more than a decade of closure and comes after both a war and an earthquake affected the region.

The Saint Simeon church complex is a significant example of Byzantine-era architecture and Christian heritage in the region. Its reopening represents a notable moment for cultural preservation efforts in Aleppo, where the Directorate-General of Antiquities and Museums has been working to restore and protect historical sites.

The ceremony on October 2 welcomed visitors back to the site after 14 years, according to Good News Network. The rehabilitation process addressed not only structural restoration but also the removal of landmines, highlighting the complex conditions under which the work took place.
