David Wilcock, a well-known paranormal researcher and television personality who appeared on the History Channel's Ancient Aliens, died at age 53 in an apparent suicide following an incident with law enforcement near Nederland, Colorado, authorities confirmed Wednesday.

The Boulder County Sheriff's Office reported that deputies responded to an emergency call on Monday, April 20, at approximately 11:02 a.m. local time. A 911 dispatcher had received a call from an individual who may have been "experiencing a mental health crisis," according to the sheriff's office press release.

Wilcock died "within minutes of deputies' arrival," Boulder police stated in their Wednesday announcement. Officers subsequently searched the residence and surrounding property, locating no other individuals. Authorities determined there was no wider threat to the community.

The incident followed concerning social media activity from Wilcock in the days preceding his death. On Friday, April 18, the researcher posted on X that he might cancel a planned livestream due to "intense stuff" happening in his life. "I am not yet sure if I am doing a show tomorrow. I've had some very intense stuff going on this weekend," he wrote. "Either way, I want you all to know how much I love and appreciate you. Always remember that the Creator is within — and we live in a loving universe. I am very grateful to you for all of your love, care and support."

Hours later, Wilcock informed his followers that he had "slept miraculously well last night" and intended to proceed with a livestream examining whether President Donald Trump might be "the antichrist" after the president posted an artificial intelligence-generated image that appeared to depict him as Jesus Christ. Trump later deleted the photo but declined to apologize, claiming he believed the image showed him as a doctor.

In promoting the planned broadcast, Wilcock posed several questions to his audience: "Are we all in a big psy-op here? Are we going to make it? Is there a schism between POTUS and the Alliance? Why have they posted things implying there is? Why is he turning on top influencers like Tucker [Carlson], Alex [Jones] and Candace [Owens] and acting so strangely? I want to have an honest discussion about this and not just sugar-coat it. I want to hear your thoughts."

Wilcock gained prominence as a consulting producer and on-air expert for Ancient Aliens, the History Channel docuseries that explored controversial theories suggesting extraterrestrial involvement in ancient civilizations and other topics related to ufology. The program attracted both a dedicated following and significant criticism from mainstream scientific publications. Smithsonian characterized Ancient Aliens as "shiny, documentary-format rubbish," while other outlets accused the series of promoting pseudoscience and conspiracy theories.

Beyond his television work, Wilcock established himself as a central figure in the disclosure movement, which contends that governments worldwide are concealing evidence of extraterrestrial contact with Earth. He authored multiple books on paranormal and metaphysical subjects, with Awakening in the Dream and The Ascension Mysteries both achieving New York Times bestseller status. His YouTube channel attracted a substantial following interested in UFO research and related phenomena.

The Boulder County incident underscores ongoing concerns about mental health crises and the importance of intervention resources. The sheriff's office has not released additional details about the circumstances surrounding the emergency call or the subsequent events.
