Actor James Marsters has officially finalized his divorce from Patricia Jasmin Rahman, bringing closure to a legal process that spanned nearly five years. The former couple reached their divorce arrangement earlier this month, with documents filed in court on Tuesday, March 3.
According to court filings, Marsters, 63, has been ordered to pay spousal support to Rahman, 39, based on his monthly income of $16,000. The settlement stipulates that the actor will provide $4,000 per month in support payments through the beginning of June.
The agreement, which the former spouses reached in September 2021, acknowledges the fluctuating nature of Marsters' income as an actor. The spousal support arrangement will continue until the death of either party, Rahman's potential remarriage, or June 1, 2026, whichever occurs first. Marsters will also continue to maintain dependent health, dental, and vision insurance coverage for his former wife.
The couple's marriage ended just shy of their tenth anniversary. Rahman filed for divorce on January 8, 2021, approximately one week before their January 14 wedding anniversary. The pair had married in 2011 following an engagement that took place during a trip to Germany in May 2010. Court documents indicate they separated in November 2020.
Marsters filed his response to the divorce petition in March 2021, but it took nearly five years to finalize all details of the settlement. The prolonged process reflects the complexity of dividing assets and determining appropriate support arrangements.
The property division outlined in court documents reveals that Rahman will retain a 2012 Mazda, half of an IRA account totaling $150,068.11, and $27,619.11 from a separate account. She will also keep her personal belongings, including clothing and jewelry.
Marsters will maintain ownership of his 2012 Honda Accord and the couple's previously shared Los Angeles residence. However, he must pay Rahman $118,983.50 as part of the property division settlement. The actor will also retain his multiple bank accounts and various business entities.
This marks Marsters' second divorce. He was previously married to Liane Davidson for eight years before their separation in 1997. The actor shares a 29-year-old son, Sullivan, from that marriage. Marsters also raised his niece from the age of five, whom he considers his daughter.
Best known for his role in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Marsters has maintained a career in television and film. During a 2020 convention appearance, he reflected on the rewards of fatherhood, stating that the true payoff of parenthood was the expansion of his capacity for love rather than material recognition.
The finalization of this divorce settlement represents the conclusion of a significant chapter for both parties, allowing them to move forward with clarity regarding their financial and legal obligations to one another.
